Album Release in Vietnam
To celebrate the release of Ha’s newest album, Composer Tran Tien held a special luncheon in Ho Chi Minh City and invited over 25 members from the Vietnamese press and media and some friends for a first listen. “Tran Tien” was released in Hanoi on September 9, and the album’s first run sold out within 48 hours.

Culture-News and People
Ha was featured on a special edition of Culture-News and People, a television program focusing on the arts in Vietnam. The program took a look at Ha’s career throughout the years and talked about her new album, Tran Tien. We spent a day with the crew at Thanh Phuong Studios in Hanoi as they filmed footage for the program.

Mixing with Mr. Phuong
Ben got a chance to hang out with Phuong at Thanh Phuong Studios in Hanoi as he was literally in the mix for Ha’s new album, Tran Tien. It sounded great, and it was fun times indeed! Outside, the August weather was balmy and relaxed as the two sipped on iced teas in the control room.

New album coming out on September:

Ha Tran Productions proudly presents the release of “TrAn TiEn,” a collection of songs written by composer Tran Tien in celebration of his 60th birthday. This is the first project in an upcoming series of featured songwriter albums produced by Ha Tran Productions. “TrAn TiEn” will hit stores across Vietnam in September and be distributed by Viet Tan Studios. The album will be released in the U.S. in October and distributed by Thuy Nga Entertainment.
The Return of Slim…

Phuong is in the U.S. to work on this project, which will involve and feature some talented friends and colleagues. Its good times indeed…stay tuned for updates. Here’s a sneak peak:

I Am Me…
On her recent trip to Vietnam in March, Ha Tran was invited to be a special guest on “I Am Me” (IME), a new Vietnamese television program aimed at younger audiences. As a tribute to Ha’s 15-year career, the show highlighted some special moments and revisited some of her early work. You can watch the clip here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=3wNcfyVhSnk.
Honda and Pentatonic
Congratulations to Vietnamese rock band Ngu Cung (Pentatonic) for winning the Tiger Beer Translate Your Passion of the Bands Challenge. Hailing from Hanoi, Ngu Cung beat out 40 other bands to win the coveted title and is being featured in a Honda advertisement campaign airing throughout Vietnam. Keep an eye out for these guys…their first album is being produced and recorded by HTP guru Phuong Thanh Tran. Check out the ad here: http://www.honda.com.vn/WaveRSX/?id=3
Coffee, anyone?
Ha Tran and Tran David Applesauce recently hooked up for an impromptu performance at Viento Y Agua, a popular café and lounge in Long Beach,
and belted out some tunes during Applesauce’s scheduled set. It was truly a great duet that came from spontaneous magic.
In print…
We’re pleased to share with you MS Furniture’s newest ad featuring Ha Tran, which has been in circulation in magazines and newspapers throughout Vietnam. As MS Furniture’s new spokesperson, Ha has been featured in a series of printed ads in Vietnam since 2007. Renovate, anyone?
And starting off 2008…
Whodat was mentioned on “http://www.vietnameseartists.net” as part of a feature on contemporary Vietnamese artists outside Vietnam. Some of these artists were eventually featured in an interview with Tuoi Tre Newspaper, a leading newspaper in Vietnam. Visit the Vietnamese Artists Network and extend your support to the next generation of artists.

MS Furniture fits every space…
We’re happy to announce that Ha Tran is the new spokesperson for MS Furniture, a high-end home furniture and interior design company based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Ha went to Vietnam in August for video and photography shoots as part of MS Furniture’s ad campaign and participated in some promotional events. The ads will run in Vietnam from 2007 to 2008. This is not the first time that Ha has been a spokesperson, and you all may remember her involvement with Cozy Tea.
We are happy to be involved with a company that produces such high quality products and provides top-notch service. More information on MS Furniture is available at www.msfurniture.com.vn.
Into the mixing bowl…
Tran Thanh Phuong is currently mixing/mastering Whodat’s third album in Hanoi. Despite his busy schedule (and at our persistence), Phuong reserved some time to put his finishing touches on the album. Recorded entirely in California, it’s truly an international collaboration. HTP will issue an official statement when the release date has been confirmed.
